Reading habits around the world is one of the topics that has always tickled my curiosity. Mostly I wondered are there more bookworms like me, since, in Serbia, finding a fellow bookworm to talk about books is harder than finding a live unicorn. (Trust me, I know, I’ve looked for both.)
Recently I have read an interesting article about reading habits around the world. And that (of course) got me comparing myself to the provided statistics.
My Reading Habits Versus The World
- Reading time: 14 hours per week (2 hour daily on average). (Eat my dust India!)
Are you even a bit shocked I read more than the first country on the list? I know I am not. But the fact that did confound me was the order of countries that read most per week. I expected to see USA and larger European countries on the top of the list, but they were not even in the top ten. - Preferred format: ebooks. (I read maybe 1-2 paperbacks per year.)
I love the convenience of ebooks so much, I expected to see them as the most popular book format. Alas I was in for a surprise… - Favorite genre: Fiction, especially speculative fiction. (It seems I should consider moving to Philippines.)
Interesting fact about this statistic was that blogs and magazines were counted as ‘reading’. I must admit I was a snob and never counted them (or people who read them), but when I think about it, there are awesome blogs and magazines out there who offer as good content as any book.

Comparing myself to the average reader in the world, definitely confirmed my self-proclaimed bookworm title. Now, let me bask in the glory of how awesome I am. ;)
